We have tried using our oven in our 5th wheel, it takes too long to preheat. I added a tile to even out the heat, still takes forever. I am not a fan of gas, so I bought a toaster oven to use. I would like to use the oven. Anyone else have problems with their oven????????????

Our oven works great, it cooks about 25 degrees hotter than the dial shows. Stuff was burning until we figured this out. So we set the dial 25 degrees lower.
We always preheat the oven for 5 minutes (even at home) to make sure it's up to temp.
Your oven may be off so try different settings with a thermometer in the oven to monitor the actual temperature.
We've had 3 different rvs with ovens all worked well.
If your RV is new have the oven fixed or replaced.

Thanks for the reply, Our rv is an 07. I did put a thermometer in it, it never got up to a temp high enough to cook with. Going to have dh look at it again.

Our oven in our Elite Suites works fine. When we bought it, it didnt have an oven because of the micro/conv and not being used to a convection I wanted an old fashioned oven. So it was added. I have found out that it takes use to getting to use it as in the stick n brick we had electric. I did buy a temp gage and added a tile to it. southwestjudy

Ours heats but never high enough to make muffins like 425. It also tends to be low so I always set the temperature higher. I too have a tile in the bottom and I think it evens the heat out better. I use the oven all the time regardless.

I have problems lighting ours sometimes - so I'm always afraid of blowing myself up. The only other problem is that it is hotter than I'm used to so I have learned to turn the temp down about 25 degrees. I don't use it too often, mostly use it for storage of knives and silicone bakeware.

I LOVE to bake, and based on what I've read in various forums, it seems that the convection oven is better than the propane oven (I also am not keen on lighting it), so the convection oven is one of the criteria I've put on our fulltime RV choice . . . but I'm eginning to second-guess myself. Should I have a propane oven, too?

We only have the convection/microwave because we did not want to give up the nice drawers. You cannot do meringue in a convection oven or do any broiling, but otherwise it works well. Meringue we have missed and one dessert that is a favorite requires two minutes of broiling to brown the top.
Since Diane is quite good at desserts maybe it is good to be limited since I don't want to buy larger clothes.

I hate to turn it on. Always had electric, afraid to light the pilot. I have hubby do it. Then it works well.

Have yet to use the oven. We got the convection oven and we've roasted and baked in that and it works great. I almost wish we would have skipped the regular oven - what I'd really love to have in it's place is a dishwasher!

I'm not fond of the oven, but I believe my primary difficulty to be not waiting for the thing to preheat. Linda's got some tips that might be helpful on another thread. We put the pampered chef stone in the bottom, but bisquits still burn on the bottom and barely brown on top. I have given up on it though because the convection/microwave works great! I have successfully baked nice, evenly browned bisquits and prepared some great blueberry scones this a.m.

Marci, We only have a propane oven. I have never used a convection oven, but my in-laws (who have traveled around the country a few times and have owned 13 different RVs in their lifetime) swear by the convection oven. We thought about buying one, but we don't have any extra space in the RV.

We have both and use the convection exclusively. The propane works OK, but is a pain to light and takes forever to get to temperature. Consequently, it's become a very large bread box.
Definitely wouldn't get the gas oven again, the convection / microwave does everything we need.

I removed the gas oven and put a cooktop in its place. Then built drawers where the oven was. We never used it anyway - we always use our convection/microwave. Personally, we would never order a rig with an oven....

Thanks for all the replies!! I've been leaning towards going with the convection oven exclusively, and your feedback re-confirms my decision. I've always had an electric oven in the house, and I'm much more comfortable with it - I hate lighting the oven in our current RV, and hardly ever use it! I have no clue how to make merangue (can't spell it either!!), so I guess I won't miss that!

Diane makes a great lemon meringue pie and she sometimes has made a sour cream raisin pie or a variant of key lime pie that has a meringue topping. Good stuff, too good for my waistline.

I only use convection/microwave and it works great for everything I need. Propane oven has become storage but I really want DH to remove, put in a stovetop and give me more storage. He's a little reluctant so would love to hear more from Jack Mayer about how that was done.

I "had" to have the propane oven when we ordered the coach, but in six years, with the convection oven, I haven't used it more than a dozen times. It is nice to have on occasion, especially when boondocking, but mostly it is used for storage. But, I do have the option! I have no problem with the convection oven...love it...and even make lemon meringue pies!! Our biggest problem with the convection oven was finding someone to install a new one when the old one quit working and couldn't be repaired. Lowe's and Home Depot will not install in RVs, but we found a mobile RV repairman to do it. Got to eat out for a few days!

Mary (mcw50): Since we have essentially the same motorhome (including floorplan and year) we probably have the same convection/microwave. Diane was told she could not make meringue and didn't try it, now she will give it a try sometime.

I guess I am the ole fashioned one here. I like my oven. I have not used the convection that much. Plus I like to use the oven, baking on a cold day. Sometimes I just get the urge to bake or cook on a boring day. My kitchen has lots of counter space for doing this and I enjoy cooking. southwestjudy

Lovin Life: A convection/microwave is a combination unit and when running as convection it is a real electric oven so it will brown the meringue. The problem is it uses fans to move the hot air around and that is supposed to mess up the meringue. But now we have been told meringue works. A torch might work to brown the top of my mother's almond torte recipe which needs a broiler, which the convection/microwave does not have. But we are not buying a torch for such occasional uses to find space in our small kitchen.

I guess our propane ovens worked. The first two 5th wheels we had didn't have the conve ction oven. But three of them did and we now never use the propane oven. And the 2010 Mobile Suites we just ordered will not have a propane oven but instead will have 4 drawers. We actually used the oven to store things. GBY.....

Update on the RV oven, DH took it apart found the problem. Not sure what part it was, but he ordered a new one. Fixed it, now I can regulate the flame. Seems to take longer to cook than the electric toaster oven, but at least it works for when I do need it.

We had the oven in our last motorhome and I never used it. When we bought our current Dutch Star it only had the microwave/convection. I have had fun learning what all the convection can do. We have drawers where the oven would have been and I LOVE the extra draw space.
