New to this forum and I have a question, is it possible to live in one state and register your MH in another, South Dakota for example: Would I need a SD drivers Lic Would SD insurance be available for a NC resident with a SD address
I'm curious as the tax rate on MH in NC is quite high.
Thanks in advance
Ron

I believe what you are suggesting may not be legal. NC may look at it as tax evasion.

You need a SD address to register a vehicle in SD. We use a mail forwarding service and that is acceptable. They require you to obtain a SD drivers license within 60 days of registering a vehicle, which you must do in person, anywhere in SD. However, your actual home state may view your actions as tax evasion, just as Jim said.
BTW, I also welcome you to this forum. This group of folks has helped to keep us out of trouble many times now. They will be happy to do the same for you - Just Ask!

Thanks for the advice, I kinda thought along the same lines. We are debating going fulltime next year so just doing some homework.

I live in NC as you see and am not a fulltimer. When I purchased my 2004 Winnebago Adventurer and registered it in NC and I paid $1500.00 sales tax.
Every year I have to pay a personal property tax on it along with 2 cars and a utility trailler which all total is less than $400.00 a year.
You have to pay taxes no matter what so why not pay your tax and then enjoy your fulltiming experience and this great country of ours.
