I kept an account with a webhosting site for a number of years, but never got my photos online. All due to the fact that I know NOTHING about HTML and other coding.
So, rather than keep paying for a site that I wasn't using, I canceled that account and now I'm looking for a site to store and share my photos. Since Howard is using Smugmug, I went to their site and I like what I see. Especially if one gets into the "Power" and "Pro" plans.
Thus, the obvious question is can a complete novice, as described above, use either of those plans easily? Or, do I really need to learn HTML to use them?
If not, can anyone recommend a site that would be easy to use, secure for my photos, and with quite a bit of space for photos? Smugmug says they have "unlimited" space while others like Pbase limit one to certain sizes.
Please accept my thanks for any help that you can give me.

Terry,
My son is using Shutterfly http://www.shutterfly.com/?cid=SHARE3SXXXX and is very happy with it. I personally don't know anything about it, but thought you might like to check it out.

I use Picasa. It is free and easy to use, but may not have the storage or other features of something like Smugmug. Don't know.....but I'll pose the question....why NOT use something like Picasa???

I use shutterfly.com and have been happy with it. It's free. I created an album site where only the folks I allow can see the photos. I also have a public site.
It's esy to use, no HTML needed. The photos upload to it quickly.

My husband has used pbase for years. It's not free but not really expensive either. He has 9924 photos on pbase and keeps adding so it has lots of room!

You may want to try photobucket.com. I use it to host images for websites and it's free and easy to use. It will generate the html code you need to use to post to a webpage or blog, etc.

I've used SmugMug for years mostly because it's one set price with UNLIMITED storage. I no longer take time to downsize my photos before uploading them. You can also add layers of protection to help maintain copyrights, you can sell your photos as prints or on merchandise and a lot more.
That said, if you don't need a lot of storage, Picasa is a great way to go.

I love photobucket. We have a pro account, only 25 bux a year, and was using it a lot for posting pics on forums I was a part of. Most forums now allow you to directly upload a photo, so I don't need it as much, but I still keep it going.

I've used Shutterfly for years - maintain a travle photo website on it. I use Picasa on a daily basis. And to answer your question, no you do not need to know HTML or any computer code to use these types of sites. They are made for novices and experts alike.
I would suggest you go onto their websites, explore a little and see which one you feel the most comfortable with. You can't hurt anything.

Just to update everyone, if you look at my signature, you can see I have a link to Photobucket. Which will work for the time being. I've even gotten REALLY brave and started a blog, one of which many won't like because I do talk about religion and politics.

You do realize this thread is 2 years dead.
Its better to start a new topic on an idea instead of reopening an ancient thread.

I have used Pisca, Photobucket, and Shutterfly. I have a friend who is not a pro photographer but takes those type quality pictures. He uses Pbase. They all pretty much do the same and there is no HTML involved. Either drag and drop or upload photos.
You didn't say which hosting service you were using, but I see that your Blog is done with WordPress. I use GoDaddy for hosting my wife's home business website, plus a couple other websites and a blog. They support WordPress plus they have a simple to use Website Builder that is template based. Going with them may mean having to purchase a domain, but if one stay's away from the general descriptors like .com and goes with something like .info then they are dirt cheap. The hosting service for a blog is also dirt cheap. I mention this because I moved all of my photos from the above mentioned ones to GoDaddy cloud storage where I can then include them in a blog or a website used for that specific purpose. I no longer have to bounce around in different sites. One log in, one site. Another reason I use them is that the Tech Support is US based and is excellent. That alone is worth paying a few a bucks a year for.
