A friend of ours said if it looks too narrow...(snow poles 6 inches either side of your rig.....) maybe you should walk it.....should have listened. After coming to a driveway saying "PRIVATE PROPERTY" and snow drifts where the road should have been on the GPS, I knew this was not my day.....
The patchy snow and ice from the night before did however, allow me to really put the 3500HD to the test with the 4WD.....one driveway behind me was my only shot....Thank god the owner was home....he and I took one hour to get a novice's 49 ft. 3 in. combo turned around. Lesson learned....no damage th eithier component of the rig.
Well no so fast....after that, pulled into a gas station....then.....backed out of the same gas station....couldn't make the rectangular turn....which BTW IS DIFFERENT than your cul-de-sac turn radius of a smaller dimension.....Who Knew??????
Forcast for the nights 12 degrees.....went to TruValue, winterized water hose with foam and fiberglass insulation.....didn't work.....glad I kept the fresh water tank 2/3'ds full. got that thawed out and the rest of the trip was enjoyed and uneventful.
Learned a lot...Our Colorado was unfazed by 12 degree temps in the Sierra's, I CAN get out of tight spots (with LOTS of Help) my truck Kicks behind pulling uphill (8.3 up and 12.4 back), water still freezes in spite of what you try to wrap. Dripping faucet while still connected to the services is a MUST!.....
But it was a GREAT trip........

A friend set his GPS to "shortest route" and made a one hour trip take over three hours since it took himself and family down dirt roads to save about 5 miles. He feels lucky they had 4-wheel drive and it was not their RV. That day's story will be told for years to come.

My wife.......would like to forget it. She said later, she did a lot of praying ....I just took it as a GREAT lesson that wasn't too expensive to us. I did go back later that day and drop off a "Thank You" to the guy that helped us.
But now....I know that I CAN get out of that situation again if needed.......hope I never need it.....
