Hi, Everybody i was wondering if anyone out there that tows a Trailer or 5th wheel uses a wind deflecter. I have a f350 and a travel trailer and get about 8 miles a gallon of diesel. Is it worth the $350 - $400 for this item?

Everything I've ever read or heard about these, concludes that it's not worth the money.

I agree with Fred. Spend your money on tire monitors....

Don't bother with the wind deflectors.  We bought one from camping world before we left on our trip.  It was so poorly made so we sent it back.  That was about $300, I guess to get a good one you have to fork out some really big bucks - I'm just not sure it is worth it.

Based upon the fact you don't see many tow vehicles on the road with wind deflectors any more, indicates to me they don't work very well. There was a time several years ago when just about everyone towing a 5th wheel had a deflector. Like Fred, every test I've seen shows the deflectors aren't worth the money. Like an old RV'er once told me when I complained about the poor fuel mileage while towing..... "What's a few extra dollars, it's the adventure that counts".

Wind deflectors do work, in the right application. It is just that with an RV trailer and pickup you can't really put on a deflector that meets the specifications for it to function properly.

First, the deflector is far narrower than the RV. So it actually causes side turbulance.

Second, it sits on the truck roof, or in some cases right behind the roof (rarely) and that is too far away from the trailer to be effective.

One thing that a good aluminum wing will do, is on a SRW truck pulling a very heavy trailer (truck maxed out or overloaded) it will add stability. But a dually will add more stability and safety.

i bought a cheap fiberglass deflector, it helped on 150 ford, tried it on 450 ford dulley with decial does not help. i still use it to keep most bugs off front of camper.

Ditto's to the above. Not worth the money IMO.
