I plan to leave Sat morning Dec.14, traveling west on I-40.  I am thinking of stopping at Timberline CG in Lebanon TN the first night.  That would be a total of about 300+ miles the 1st day.  The CG is just about a mile from the interstate, so it shouldn't be a problem getting in and out.

I am looking for something in Arkansas the 2nd night, but everything I've seen is in the western area of the state.  I've looked at P.A., Good Sam, and KOA; I believe Good Sam has a CG nr Little Rock, but it's off a bypass around L.R. and I'd rather not go there if I can help it.  Even the Flying J is in the western part of Arkansas.

Does anyone have a suggestion?  What CG discount programs am I missing?  I don't belong to Escapees.  Even if I don't get a discount, does someone know of a decent CG with level pull thru sites between W. Memphis & Little Rock? Thanks.

Because everyone has different likes and dislikes about campgrounds I normally stay clear of discussions about where to stay.  I'm making an exception in this case.

Timberline CG in Lebanon, TN is a dump.  In all of our years of RVing, this is the only place we've stayed at where my wife told me to be sure the door was locked when we went to bed for the evening.  This campground has a large section of permanent residents living in trailers that haven't been road worthy for many years.  Bathrooms dirty, dumpster overflowing, etc.  I know this is a PPA campground with a cheap rate but for my money, it's not worth it.  There are other campgrounds in that area, consider those.

Thank you very much for your take on Timberline.  I don't demand a lot of amenities, but I do want cleanliness & security, the same things I have always demanded from a hotel or motel.  I appreciate your reply.

In West Memphis we like Tom Sawyer. It is not particularly cheap and is not a discount park. It's attraction is that it is right on the river and you can watch the barges. Nice park with free wifi. We make it a destination stop on any E/W trip on I40.

In Little Rock there is a COE Campground located on Hwy 10 with sites facing the Arkansas River. The sites are large and several are pull-thru. I don't own an RV (yet) so I don't camp there. I can't give you any details from that perspective. It's fairly close to my work so I go there sometimes at lunch. I see many large rigs staying there and they appear to have plenty of room. I know Don and Alice Fay Turney stay there often (http://www.mytripjournal.com/TurneyTravels08), they may be able to give you better info. good Luck! Rick

Gypsy97---Here are a couple of sites that I like to use.  They are user friendly have good info, and reviews you can pretty much trust.  The people who review them are people who have stayed there and have nothing to lose or gain by there reviews.  "rvfamilyfun.com" and "rvparkreviews.com"  give them a try, see if they work for you.

The COE park that Sanddreamer was referring to is called Maumelle Park. It is located just a few miles off I-430 west of Little Rock off state highway 10. There is also another wonderful COE park just outside of Conway, AR called Toad Suck Park. It, too, is located on the Arkansas River with water and electric sites on the riverfront. We have stayed in both parks and enjoy them. Maumelle definitely has pull through sites, but I don't remember any pull-thrus in Toad Suck. The city of North Little Rock is working on a park on the riverfront area of that city. It was made ready for the FMCA rally in September of this year, but I don't know if it is officially opened yet. Also the City of North Little Rock has a city park by the name of Burns Park that supposedly has RV sites. We have been to Burns Park for several day-type outings, but have never taken the RV. There is also an Arkansas State Park just off I-40 in the Russellville area that is great, too. However, it would be about 70 more miles down the road. Hope this helps! Debbie
