Hi, As we get ready for our first full timing trip, I'm trying to figure out our agenda. (I KNOW, as full timers we should leave the agenda behind! But we have some initial family obligations, then the calendar will be put in the nearest dumpster!) So... if I have to go through El Paso (ugh) is Saturday ok or is Sunday morning much better? Also, if I want to get a site in the Catalina State Park in Tucson, are my chances better on a Sunday or Monday in March? thanks for your help! Loralie

I would call and talk to the pk.for most people that do not full-time go back home on Sundays and back to work. We checked out this park last winter but did not stay there. southwestjudy

Catalina is pretty busy in March, but I would think that Monday would be better.
It's a fantastic park, we've stayed there a number of times.
Good luck,
Fred

Those sound like some "tough" decisions to have to make. I cannot wait until we have to make them!!!!

We know many people who dislike driving on weekends, but we have found that Sunday morning is a great time to travel, especially through larger cities (unless you're near a NASCAR race or professional football game!)

If we have to go through big cities, we always try to do it on a Sunday.

We have been through El Paso many times and all times....best to make it on a Saturday or Sunday. We have been through there on Wednesday at 4:30 PM and if there are no wrecks the traffic moves OK...Just know what lane you need to be in because they will not let you over if you guess wrong.

Here in Southern California, we try to leave after morning rush hour and before afternoon rush hour (after 9AM, before 1PM respectively) during the week or early Sunday morning.
Anytime Saturday and Sunday afternoon is usually too busy around the big cities.
It's a bunch of tight windows of opportunity, but it saves sitting in bumper to bumper traffic if you time it right.
Our old camping group would only camp Monday through Thursday to avoid the weekend crowds.
Several times we have tried to leave at 4AM on Saturday morning headed north on the San Diego Freeway (I-405) and hit traffic. The kind of traffic you would expect during a week day. It wasn't bumper to bumper but tight enough that you had to really pay attention to what was going on around you.

For El Paso Texas, Sunday is easiest, Saturday second, and weekdays between 10 and 2 in the am or pm. Been there and done that many, many times especially in El Paso.

We just came through El Paso last Friday on the final leg of our first trip fulltiming. We passed through downtown at about 11:00 a.m. and traffic was very heavy. I would think passing through Saturday mid-morning or Sunday while folks are at church would be more pleasant that what we dealt with. I can say we successfully covered over 3k miles without a glitch.
We traveled from Granbury TX to Las Vegas, NV, Phoenix AZ for the NASCAR race, Payson Arizona (in the mountains) and are now back in Texas in Kerrville. Total time 3 weeks. Saturday we leave for Rockport for a 3 month stay. I can tell you it is one of the best times I have ever had in my life. Have fun!
