I have decided on residency in SD when my house gets sold, but there are at least 4 different mail forwarding companies that I know of.  They probably all do a good job and the fees are relatively similar, so I would like to know if anyone that uses a SD mail forwarding service can give me positive or negative feedback.  Private messaging is ok if you don't want to go on record

I have used My Dakota Address for almost a year now and can't say enough good about them. Terri Lund is the manager and has helped me title/register my vechicles, get my drivers license, put vanity tags on my vehicles and handled my wide variety of mailing requests (including but not limited to discarding junk mail & catalogs unless they had to do with RVing or motorcycles as well as opening and combining packages to save on shipping costs for me). I opted for the monthly mailing but there have been several times she's done an extra mailing for me when requested - no additional charge.

Since my summer base camp is in the Black Hills area, western SD, I went with  http://www.americas-mailbox.com/ and I'm very happy with their service.

We've used Alternative Resources in Sioux Falls for over 7 years now, and have not had any problems. They've been very helpful with getting license plates renewed and vehicles titled, and have always helped with any concerns or problems that we have had.

I think the mail forwarding service you choose, is probably a matter of preference. I would imagine most are good, or they wouldn't be able to stay in business. News of bad service spreads quickly in the RVing world.

We have used My Home Address, Inc. for more than 2 years and are very happy with the service they provide. They are located in Emery, SD which is about 30 miles west of Sioux Falls and east of Mitchell. If you do choose them, give #2161 as our referral. Good luck in whatever you choose!

Ditto Froggi, no complaints with Terri in over a year. Had one problem, turned out to be on our end with our virus protection service. Even so, Terri was so diligent in helping us figure it all out.

I appreciate all the responses.  I have an interested buyer for my house, so if we can agree on terms I may be closing the 28th of October.  What in the world can I do about voting - I won't have time to get set up in SD, will I?  Can you register there without being there physically?  I know I will have to go there to get my driver's license.  My current NC license will expire Nov 14, and I will probably have to renew it here.  On the voting, I'm not sure if I can vote here after I sell my house and have no address in NC.  This is one election I don't want to miss!  (Sorry to be mixing other topics in with the SD address one, but I'm frantic!)

Owning a house isn't a requirement to vote. While its true that in some areas, lack of a physical residence may complicate a new voter registration; but since you're alredy registered in NC, it shouldnt be an issue. Your best option may be to request an absentee ballot now, while you still have the residence. Just tell them you're going to be travelling in Nov. and  vote by mail in  ballot.

I too heartily recommend My Dakota Address in Madison. Terri has been nothing but prompt and professional, and she seems to go the extra mile for everyone.

I had been with My Home Address in Emery for five years, but there were some service issues earlier this year, so decided to switch. As soon as I informed MHA of this, it was like Dr. Jekyl and Mr. Hyde! They instantly became complete jerks, at first refusing to forward what little mail I had left, then not responding to my emails, and finally returning some of my mail to sender, which was inconvenient, embarassing, and in violation of postal regs. This is not how a professional service should operate.

My mail forwarding address is with MYDakotaAddress, and I have the 5th wheel & truck registered in SD.  I am considering flying to Sioux Falls on Tuesday, the 24th of March, to get my driver's license.  I will have to fly from Sacramento to Denver, with a change of planes to Sioux Falls, and will arrive in the evening.  I'll need to make a hotel reservation for that night. 

If I go to the DMV the next day, (25th), I understand that I can get my license right away - just turn in my NC license, take the vision test and I'm good to go!  So theoretically I can make my return reservations back to Sacramento the evening of Wed. 25th, right?  I have heard something about being required to stay overnight in order to get the license, but just want to make sure (before I get a non-refundable airline ticket) that it isn't required to be there 24 hrs before getting the license - just overnight.  And will I use my MyDakotaAddress address, or the address of the hotel I stay at?

I would appreciate comments especially from anyone who has gone through this drill in the last year or so.  Thanks.

First, make sure the DMV will be open that day. Most of the small towns in SD are only open one day a week. Use your SD address on your license. They will ask if it is a PMB, but it doesn't matter, they will still use that address. I am not aware of any overnight requirement. We stayed in an RV park nearby for a few days, but as far as I know, we could have driven in, done the paperwork, and driven out. Anyone here heard of an overnight rule? BTW, this is the first drivers license picture ever that I look happy in - guess because it was my final big step to FREEDOM!

I believe the overnite thing is for voters registration. They will only accept a street address. Some rv parks will allow you to use their street address for this purpose. Not needed for dmv.
