Have any of you used those large storage bags that supposedly compress clothing, linens, etc by using the suction from your vacuum cleaner?   Do they work as well as advertised?

Diane uses Space Bags to store her yarn in and they do work.  We also have some other things stored in them.  Don't expect them to compress as much as the advertisers say, but they do save space.  Make sure you store them so they do not get punctured, we had one caught and punctured by a cross piece under our coach and deflate, it made it hard to pull back out.

Yes, we've used them to put extra clothing in. They're stored under our bed and in the basement. As Bill said, make sure they're stored where they won't be punctured.

We have used the "Space Bags" for several years to store extra pillows and bedding that we use when we have overnight guests.  We have had one get punctured, but still feel they are worth it.  They come in several sizes and different shapes now, and we have several acquaintances who use them also.

We must be rough on them or we try to shrink the items too much. Over a third of the bags have filled back up with air after 6 months or so. Most of these were the big bags designed to hold sweaters, linens...etc.

Yesterday, I pulled a smaller bag containing two pillows out of a storage compartment and it was no longer under vacuum but was air tight. No air escaped when I pressed on it. No leaks I could find, the pillows were no longer compressed.

It seems like we've used every type and size of these bags. Close to 30 or more. The ones I find work the best are the bags designed for use in a suitcase where you roll the bag up to empty the air and then seal it, no vacuum required. I haven't had one of these type lose the vacuum.

Knowing how we do things, we probably over filled the bags with stuff and then try to suck out too much air and expect the seal to hold for longer than 6 months.

It seems like others have had better luck with them than we have so ignore my reply.

I'm just a frustrated husband of a home shopping junky.

My wife buys so much stuff from QVC & HSN that if she doesn't order for a couple of days, both networks automatically send her a get well card.

Just kidding honey..... what are you planning to do with the Handy Dandy Slicing Machine you just got from QVC. I said I was sorry for the crack about the get well cards........just put the Handy Dandy Slicer down....
