I have noticed that whatever the make or model, whatever the floorplan, the distribution seems to be pretty much the same - say for a 5th wheel, half the space is devoted to bedroom & bath, and the other half to living, dining & kitchen. I could do with a full size bed, and prefer a shower rather than a full tub, and would rather have the extra space in the living area. Is there something about weight distribution that is a determining factor? Thanks. gypsy

Most fivers are 1/3 bedroom/bath and the rest is living area , kitchen and dining area with living space. Its not half and half in a fifth wheel. I hope I understood your question right. southwestjudy

Have to agree with Judy here, what kind of units are you looking at? Even class A's are about 2/3 living and 1/3 bedroom.

You may be right and it's the way I'm looking at the floorplans. They usually don't give any dimensions - just total inside length. They sure look more like half & half to me. Better get my eyes checked before I try to drive a big RV! gypsy

There are a couple of manufacturers that allow you some freedom in the design of the floorplan and accessories. The only two I can remember is Kit manufacturing for 5th wheels and Lazy Daze for Class C MH.
Maybe some of the others can suggest a couple of additional manufacturers.
Weight distribution is crucial for balance, safety and towability, so the floorplans are designed with those factors in mind.
Another option would be to get one of the toy hauler type 5th wheels and redesign the cargo area to your liking....it's basically a blank slate for a living room or bedroom. Throw in a Murphy bed and you can make it both, living and bedroom.

If we wanted a custom built 5-er we would probably go with a Space Craft. We have visited ther web site and can not beleive how well built these units are. If we ever got to that part of the country we would stop in and take a tour of the faculity. Even though we do have a MH it seems very interesting. Would probably get a used HDT and make provisions to it to haul a car.
Another design from the floor up fifthwheel company is New Horizons. They get the highest rating by the RV Consumer Group.

I was going to mention them also, but they are very heavy and expensive. We have friends with one that is very modestly decorated- bedroom, kitchen and 2 office desks, and it weighs over 19,000 pounds. They tow it with a custom F550.

As Fred mentioned yes you can have a Rv customized for you at a cost just remember if it is a fiver you will have to have a lot of horsepower to pull if it is a unit 19,000 lbs or over. We have a F-550 pulling with our Elite.Suite fifth wheel. southwestjudy

Thanks for all the responses. Hopefully I will find something just the right size and laid out the way I prefer.
I am putting my house on the market soon, and am working with an agent to sell it. I just don't know where to begin with cleaning out what I already have, plus clean & stain the decks, etc. One of my brothers and a cousin are coming next weekend to help me, and for once in this drought stricken area, I hope it doesn't rain. gypsy
