How do solo rv'ers cope with filling water tanks & emptying them? I remember in the 70's going out with my brother & his wife in their motor home, and she poured something in the toilet from inside while he worked with the hoses outside the MH. I thought it was pretty gross back then, so I didn't really pay too much attention. Is this something that can easily be done by oneself? How about filling the fresh water tank? Also, approx. how long do these chores take (and I realize it depends on the size of the tanks).
I think the things that are so much easier with two people - such as emptying the tanks, navigation, etc., are what scare me about trying to solo. gypsy

Gypsy,
Have no fear. Flying solo includes virtually every task. There are no operations with filling a fresh water tank or dumping black or grey tanks that require four hands.
You will get the hang of the process quickly and think nothing of the process after you follow a check list the first few times. It is not a gross job. Not doing it results in a most gross job.
If you have not purchased an RV, ask a dealership service department individual to show you the ropes, excuse me I meant hoses.
If you already own an RV, ask a fellow RVer to show you the hoses. (got it right this time)
You will be fine. Nothing in the process is dirty or gross.
Have fun every mile down the road.

Thanks - that is a relief to hear! I thought with so many solo'ers out there it has to be easier than I thought. gypsy

Well, there are those who execute an elaborate and complex infinite step dumping process. There are those who end up dumping like in the movie "RV." There are those who fill up with 100 gals of diesel at the very same time they dump 100 gals of black/gray and even fill 100 gals of potable water. All three at the same time and all solo at the Flying J RV island before the diesel even cuts off.
The whole process can be as simple or as complex as you want to make it. I am the in the later camp - pun intended - and do all three simultaneously and all solo.
No stress, no worries. Roz has it right. It's a piece of cake and I always get dirtier/smellier from the diesel than either of the other two!

RVDude, What is a Flying J? I have heard it mentioned a couple times, but I'm not familiar.

A truck stop. They sell gas and diesel. Usually have a dump station and fresh water supply. Usually a convenience store and restaurant. Also spaces for overnighters. Lots of truckers use them as do RVers. Find them along most Interstates.
As far as truck stops go, they are probably the most RV friendly often with a separate RV fuel island that has water and dump facilities and many sell propane too.
