We are preparing for a quick trip to Louisville, Ky. from Escondido, Ca. Only have 6-7 travel days so no time to be a tourist. Probably hit the Walmarts along the way. Planning to take 40 to Oklahoma City, Ok. but then is it better to stay on the 40 to Nashville and north on 65 or 44 out of Ok. to the 64? Have done the 44 to 64 several times so looking for a change. Mileage is about the same but what about the roads? Can't seem to find a website that would tell me about road construction. Anyone driven in that area recently? Thanks so much! Brenda

Brenda,
Taking I-40 to Nashville and I-65 north to Louisville sounds good. You will not get into Nashville as you skirt the city to the west. About forty miles north of Nashville is a Flying-J at Exit 2 in Kentucky and a Walmart just beyond in Bowling Green.
Where are you staying in Louisville? There are few to choose from.

My dad travelled back to Louisville area every year for 30 years. He always took I-40 to 65. He said it was the fastest route. He liked to drive and would usually make the trip in about 4 days, once he made it in 3 1/2 days, he was 75 years old, the only driver and in a 36ft MotorHome...that's over 700 miles per day.
I once followed him back from KY and at times the speedo was reading 95MPH... I was averaging 4 miles per gallon. After that trip I understood why he was able to get back there in just a few days instead of a week.

Thanks for the helpful info. Now if you could just do something about the weather!!!!!! All the storms and tornados! Not looking forward to dealing with all of that while traveling in our motorhome. We're leaving Ca. on Sun. the 4th so looks like we'll encounter a few storms at some point. We'll just take it easy and stop if we need to and if we don't make it there by the 10th, oh well, we already missed the Derby by a week anyway ! Brenda

We are currently in southeastern Kentucky, and the weather looks good after Sunday. You should be able to stay behind the storms, just keep tuned into the weather reports. We however are waiting for the big storm tonight.
