In recent RV Dreams journal entries, Howard and Linda have mentioned their friend Len, who also keeps a travel journal called Len's Travels over at mytripjournal.com. Unfortunately, I've been unable to access Len's journal or anything at mytripjournal.com the past couple of days. I just keep getting a "Forbidden" access message. Is anyone else having problems accessing the site or Len's journal in particular? If so, do you know why?

I got an error message from mytripjournal yesterday or the day before, lasted a while but now I get in just fine (albeit it slow loading).
Maybe try emptying your browser's temporary cache, closing and reopening. Sometimes that helps....sometimes....<g>

Thanks, Froggi. I've tried emptying my temporary internet files and such, but still no luck. I don't understand why I can't access that website. I was really enjoying it too.
Well I still can't get in to that site. I did a google search for the forbidden access message which follows:
Forbidden
You don't have permission to access /on this server.
Apache/1.3.33 Server at www.mytripjournal.com Port 80
If I'm understanding what I read in my google search, they blocked my access because they think I'm spying. Well that's silly. All I'm doing is checking out their trip journals like they want us to. I have no idea how to fix this. I finally break down and get a computer and all I encounter are problems. Seems to me they are more trouble than they are worth!

Hi Everyone,
My name is Alex, I am in charge of customer support at MyTripJournal.com. First, please feel free to email me at support@mytripjournal.com if you ever have problems or questions.
In regards to the "Forbidden" message - in some cases this is caused by browser features that "spy" and steal bandwidth. It is called "Creative ZENcast" and if you find this on your computer, you should delete it and you should be able to access MyTripJournal.com. In most cases, the "Forbidden" message is a localized temporary issue. Usually if you come back to the site a few hours later, you will not encounter the problem.

Froggi,
Did you get your issue resolved? Mine seems to be working fine. No issues with access.
Regards,
Randy

Hi everyone. Well I'm still "forbidden" access to mytripjournal. Alex, thank you for responding. If I understand you correctly, you are saying I have some spyware on my computer? I did recently switch from Norton to Avast for security. Perhaps the Avast doesn't catch the spyware that Norton did. Does anyone know how to find and get rid of this "Creative ZENcast" Alex referred to? I'm a novice at this computer stuff, as I'm sure you've all figured out by now. All I can think to do is download and run Spybot and hope that helps. I appreciate everyone's interest. My apologies to Linda and Howard for bringing this problem to their board.

Well today mytripjournal.com is definately having problems for me and my wife (different computer). I track about six journals and they are mostly not responding and when they do I get their equivalent of the "we are having problems, try again in 5 minutes". I suspect mytripjournal.com is having more success than they are built to handle and are not scaling well. Lots of places build for the flashy graphics and on top of products that don't let them scale to large sizes well and the low levels are neglected. Then reality hits. Of course now it is some tech's problem to fix it.

Creative Zencast, http://www.zencast.com/about/, is something you are supposed to actually install with your Creative Zen player and not have something else install it for you. If you have it you should be able to run Control Panel, then "Add and remove programs" and find it on the list to remove. If this is really the problem I am surprised more people have not encountered it.

Thanks Bill. I don't have zencast on my computer. I googled Apache server since that is part of the message I keep getting, and that looks like some software you install as well. As far as I can tell, I don't have that on my machine either. I have done everything I can think of to do but am still forbidden access to the mytripjournal website. I have been thinking about emailing Alex (who posted above) but am not quite certain he is who he says he is and am afraid of giving a stranger my email address. The only other thing I can think to do is call geeksquad to fix it, but I can't see spending hundreds of dollars when my problem is just with that one website. I'll just have to avoid that website. Too bad. I really enjoyed reading some of the journals and Lens Travels in particular. Well at least RV Dreams is still accessible to me!

Cherie,
Sorry you are still having problems. I'm sure there is something on your computer causing the error (i.e. a "local issue").
But I am replying mostly to let you know Alex is legit. We used to use MyTripJournal and I've dealt with him in the past. They are good folks over there.
I wouldn't hesitate to email him.

Cherie, are you using Internet Explorer? If so, maybe there is a security setting that is preventing your access. I use Firefox so not much help but I do remember a few years back when there was a security update to IE and it prevented me from accessing my Delphi forums...

Howard, I'm glad to know Alex is legit. Thank you so much for letting me know that. I will try emailing him and see if he has any other ideas how I can solve this problem.
Froggi, yes I'm using Internet Explorer. I looked at the security settings for the browser and don't see anything obviously wrong, but I really don't know enough about it to know for sure or to try and make changes at random. I may try downloading the Firefox browser and see if that works. I've noticed a lot of people prefer it over Explorer. But first, I'll try emailing Alex to see if he has any other ideas.
Thank you all so very much.

Just wanted to let everyone know that I am able to access Len's Travels and the mytripjournal.com website again, thanks to Alex and his tech team. I'm not sure what the problem was exactly or what they did to fix it, but it is fixed and that's all that matters.
