While we are here at a resort park they have a wonderful stained glass shop and h and I are working on some projects. Our teacher is a nice Canadian lady and really is a great teacher. Has others found this hobbie at a park ?? We are really enjoying it. southwestjudy & Bob & 2blackdogs

Our winter park has a huge stained glass workshop where they turn out gorgeous stuff....from small pieces to big pieces to fit in the windows near the high ceilings of some of the park models and in the various activity room windows of the park. Some people have replaced the windows in their RV doors or have oversized "sun catchers" hanging in their windows. I don't know how they got it home, but one guy made a huge panel to take to his home church....beautiful! There is almost always someone working in the workshop. (I haven't gotten into this as at this point in my life I prefer to spend time outside - tennis, golf, hiking, pickleball, etc.)

Judy, I'm glad to hear that there are parks offering this great hobby. I would like to know if the teacher has any suggestions regarding how to take the hobby of stained glass on the road while traveling. Also, what are you making?
Thanks, Karon

Although we are not into this activity, at the RV Resort we are presently at they do have a stained glass shop. We have seen some of the work and it is fantastic. Seems that at different parks there is something for everybody along the way.

We started out with suncatchers since we have never attempted this hobby before. Now we are doing another small item and then we are going to do a Southwest glass window. Not for the door in our rv. We will work on this project together.. I have met a couple that have a toyhauler for theyre hobbies. He had added shelves and whatnot for his dw hobbies cause she had to take them with her when traveling and now they have the room. So this maybe the answer for big projects like some of you guys may have with your larger tools instead of just the toys. southwestjudy & Bob & 2blackdog

Just curious. I am a woodworker and since our decision to go full time I have sold all of my equipment. In these parks that have stained glass classes, do they also have a woodworking shop available. It sure would fill the void that has been left in my creative side. Ray

Tried to post eariler but apparently it didnt go through. So will give it another go. Yes most parks do have fine woodworking shops. The last 2 we were at had them and dh used them. Snowbirds like to persue they'e hobbies too. This particular park has 2 buildings one for the stained glass and another is a woodshop, why one even has an observatory. southwestjudy & Bob & 2blackdogs

Many of parks in which we have stayed have a woodworking shop...that seems to be a "favorite." Our current park has enlarged their woodshop several times and has every tool imaginable available and helpful "monitors" who will give all the help and instruction needed. (A class on local policies and operation is required before you are allowed to work on your own).

Thanks for the replies. Now another question. Where are these parks that you are talking about. We want to highlight them in our campground directory. Thanks again for the info. Ray

Many parks have amenties and things to do. Butterfields in Bensen has the observatory and a guy there to show you whats going on in the skies during nitetime, the pk also has a nice woodshop. Palm Harbor (expensive pk) did not stay there also has shops for hobbies. Desert Gardens Oasis RV pk is where we are and has the very nice stained glass shop and a seperate woodshop. southwestjudy & Bob & 2blackdogs

I know that you know where these parks are but I don't. What state are you talking about? Or did I miss something is the original posts? We are in So. Cal. right now but will be heading out in the next 45 days or so and probably heading to Casa Grande Az. Then it's anybody's guess where we will go. Thanks for any info that you can provide. And I sure didn't mean to hijack this thread. Sorry. Ray

Dh has just finished some stained glass windows for the couple that we are house sitting for here in the "Land of Enchantment". If you go to our trip journal you can see how they will look when installed. southwestjudy
