Hey it's a major national magazine! Hard to say we're disappointed, but the article is sort of much ado about nothing.
It's very short. I am quoted twice, correctly. It seems that "featured" couple means that we got in two quotes whereas the others interviewed got in only one or none.
There are two inaccuracies in the facts related to us. We do have a fifth wheel, not a motorhome, and we never owned a real estate "insurance" business.
And the article sort of gives the impression I didn't want it to give: That full-timers are all a bunch of rich people with expensive rigs staying in pricey resorts or buying pricey RV lots. So, so far from the reality. Oh well.
I'm sort of glad they didn't publish our website. I'm not sure we were really ready for that.

heh - Angie asked me "When did we get married??" :)
I thought Liz did a good job with the little space allotted. I am sure we would have read more about ourselves, but I suppose that is why I have a blog - so I can read about ourselves whenever I want ;) However, she did make us look like a couple of total geeks by listing all of our "electronicals".
Oh, wait. We are a couple of total geeks...
One quote from me that I am VERY glad she didn't put in - we were talking about our little puppy Malabar, and I mentioned that he was a great way for us to meet more people at RV parks. I said something like "...he is like the RV park chick-magnet". Ang stressed the whole time that would be the only quote from us used. No such luck, Ang. Sorry :)
Thanks again for helping us get that set up, Howard. My mom is going to be proud!!

Well ---- I guess the article is better than no article at all, but I felt that the reporter and photographer emphasized the high-end glamorous aspect of full-timing.
And it is "nice" to have somewhat of a handle on how many full-timers there are out there --thanks to the sages at KOA there are 450,000.

Greetings, All!!!
Having spent a career working with many segments of media and editors with various commitments, I can only say with their space constraints and already having a preset "slant" on what their assignment editor wanted to feature, I would not be surprised or dismayed to see they tred to perpetuate the an image of a "high end" life of RVers.
The erroneous statements usually come from the editor not understanding their subject, not taking good notes and possibly not truly taking interest in the interviewees as being pationate about what they do.
All in all, it is not what we RV-Dreamers had hoped for, but it is not that far from what I had expected.
Congratulations still go to Howard and Linda for having sufficient visability to be the ones contacted and for their being very generous to identify others with whom to share the limelight. Congratulations to you all!!!

Time is focused on their audience and this article pretty well demonstrates what audience they have in mind. Not surprised but wish there were more of the media interested. The market place would be very upset if a majority of Americans moved to this kind of lifetstyle. Better for them to portray their view, that leaves more space for those of us who enjoy the good life.

Hey Howard,
I see you got the last word in the article! I'm disappointed that they didn't mention your website. It may have been slightly slanted to the high-end folks, but it was still clearly about full-time RVing, and not all retired folks. I think RV-Dreams.com would be perfect follow-up reading for folks interested in that article.
Here is the link to the online version: Home Sweet Motor Home
