This weekend, after using the MH (a 2000 Winnie Adventurer 35U) the living room slide would not retract. When you push the switch to bring it in, the unit makes noise but did not move. It took someone operating the switch, two people pushing on the outside and one person pulling on the inside to get it started. Once started it seems to be catching at the top front edge. The "rub" rail is gouged (as if the slide box is out of alignment). There seems to be an extra amount of stress on the opposite lower rail and some metal on metal fatigue in the same corner. After speaking with the local RV dealer (who will fix it in a couple of weeks) it seems to be an issue of adjusting the bolts that control the up and down or front to back. Has anyone ever done this themselves? Winnie Corp will not give an owner any information, they simply tell you to go to the dealer for service. HWH (the slide manufacturer) will not give you any information, they refer you Winnie HQ. In looking at the adjustments, it seems to be just like adjusting the left to right and the up/down (like a headlight on an old car) ... Does anyone have any thoughts? Thanks. John.

I had a slide out of whack. It was still moving in and out, but I think it was on borrowed time. I could tell it was out of whack because it was across from my bed, and I could see sunshine in the morning. I took it to Monaco and they found that it had "jumped its track". They used some very tall jacks to lift the slide up, then pushed it into position. They found one of the adjustment or stop bolts that was adjusted too far out was pushing on the rail. Once they put it back into position and adjusted the bolts on the outside, they came inside and adjusted the rollers that contact the floor inside the coach. You may inspect the rails to assure it is where it should be. I think the inside and outside adjustments are to be pretty subtle. I think with a flashlight you can probably find all of the adjustment points and at least figure out where it is out of whack. But, if you are under warranty still, wait the couple of weeks ;) --kev

I have never had to adjust my slides. However, everything I have read and after doing my own investigations I would take the advice I have seen, always let a dealer adjust them (in terms of alignment). It will be worth it everytime for your sanity. If you need to adjust the motors (i.e. current limiting) that is simple and hassle-free.
