Can a 1993 Ford Ranger 4WD (manual transmission) be towed 4 wheels down? It has two buttons on the dash - 4X4 & 4 Low. If it can be, then what must be done to do so? Thanks to anybody who reponds to this question.

No disrespect to any of our forum members, but for this type of information I would only believe what I personally read specifically from the owners manual that came with the truck. You can call Ford and order one if you don't have it anymore. Towability is so specific as to vehicle/engine/chassis/transmission/drive train options that to accept any hearsay is potentially dangerous. A secondary source of information would be Remco Towing.
Given that, manual transmissions tend to be far more towable than automatics. Meaning, you stand a good chance. The concern you will have is what are the specifics for your truck? Specifically the transfer case. The owners manual will tell you if the hubs need to be engaged or not, whether 4x4 is engaged or not, whether in neutral or in gear, and what limitations there are.

Thank you for your input. I was just hopeing someone had towed one and knew. The local Ford dealer here is of no real help unless I want to buy a new truck and their service department seems "too busy" to answer my question. Which in my opinion is no way to treat people but to each their own I guess.

Dan, I don't know if they go back to 1993, but Motorhome magazine publishes a yearly towable chart which tells you what vehicles are towable 4 down. You might want to check out their web site at www.motorhomemagazine.com and see if they can help you.
If they don't have the info, make sure, like RVDude says, you get your info from the dealer or someone who has actually towed the exact model that you have.
Good luck

Just as RVDude said, be very careful and don't take advice from people that might not know about your particular vehicle. There are a lot of people towing 4 down that shouldn't be. They are voiding their warranties and could cause themselves grief in the long run. One place you could look is in the book in the glove compartment for your truck. It should give towing instructions. Another thing you might try is calling the factory. Keep checking all options until you locate your information. Good luck!

Well, I kind of, sort of got the answer to my question from the local Ford dealership. So, again thanks to all who helped me. I would delete my question but don't know how.
