Maybe you all are familiar with this but did you know that Mapquest has a convenient way to find campgrounds? Just found this out on another site and thought I would pass it along to anyone else a little slow on the road !
Go to Mapquest then choose lookup category and find it in Sports and Recreation. It will show you a list of the area campgrounds sorted by distance from your destination.
Maybe someone has posted this before but it might be new info to some (like me ! )

Wow! That is very cool
I would have never thought to look there for campgrounds. I use it frequently for maps and directions. This will make it even better Thanks for the tip!
I know I read a post that showed how to change your route in MapQuest by clicking on the route and dragging it to a different road. How do I do that? Maybe it was a different program but please tell me how to do that again?
Thanks!!!

Donna, Mapquest doesn't have the feature to drag and change the route, but Google Maps does. Try that.

Hey have any of you tried the web site "rvfamilyfun.com" not only does it have maps with campgrounds markers, it also has campground ratings from people who have visted them. They have a rating system and a few words from someone who has been there with there likes and dislikes. it's really a help in finding something nice and staying away from some real bad campgrounds.

flyone... www.RVFamilyFun.com also has an interesting feature you can use on your "MY Homepage" tab of that site. If you enter your current location and your RVFamilyFun.com "friends" do the same, you'll get an email whenever someone is within whatever distance you choose from your current location. Kind of a nice feature to help connect a cyber community with the real community.
Something nice to add to the RV-Dreams community? Sort of like a Buddy Map on steroids. Does Howard need yet another RV-Dreams feature? He's already the lawyer turned web master! Or maybe the web is mastering him? Or maybe Linda... Or...

Sorry, but I can't find 'Sports and Recreation' anywhere on the Mapquest site. I tried entering a specific destination, too (Rapid City), but still, no link to 'Sports and Recreation' . Can you provide a URL?
thx... -- jcw

On MapQuest, all you need to do is type "campgrounds" into the search field and then fill in a city, state. You'll then get a map and listing. Click for example.
REMEMBER: No one site, be it Google Maps, Woodalls, MapQuest, RVFamilyFun, RVParkReviews, TL, RVThereYet.cc, etc... has ALL possible campgrounds listed on it. You really need to pick several of these tools, become familiar with each, and search each and every one every time to find most of the available campgrounds in a specific area.

Ahhh. Now I get it. In the box on the left, under the 'Place Name' dialog box there's a little hyperlink labeled (in light grey, hard to spot) 'Look up Category'. When you click on the 'Category' part a pop up window shows up with a list of 15 choices. Towards the bottom of that list is the 'Sports and Recreation' originally mentioned by beamercat. Cool.

You don't even need to select a category (i.e. sports & rec), just search for "campground" (type that in the search for box) in whatever city/state. Keep It Simple.

Most of the above works in Google maps also.
Go to the maps page; click find business; enter campground and the city; click enter. Zooming in as far as possible sometimes allows me to see the roads and sites within a park. Unfortunately, the searches often include nonsense locations. It often works better if you enclose campground in quotes.
You may also alter your routes by dragging through different towns.

I am sure at least one person will find Google useless.
