Howard, We bought our new coach...a 40 foot DP... 2007 Vectra TD, and we are very excited, but now we need a little information on insurance. We read your article, and it is so helpful...however we have a few questions. We will only use the new Motor Home for weekends here and there for this year. Larry will be retiring on May 1, 2008, and will then begin as Fulltimers. For now ....we are still home owners and not sure how to go about insurance. We have our home up for sale this week as things are not selling very fast, and figured we would try to sell it and rent a friends home until we go full timing. If it does not sell by Fall we will take it off the market until Spring. We believe we should have full replacement insurance now, but not fulltimers insurance until May of 2008. Is it different if we do sell our home soon? Is this correct? So many questions...so little time.. It is all over whelming to us right now. Not sure which insurance company is the right one either. Which clubs to join etc ??? Any help from you and the forum will be greatly apprecaited. Thank you Arlene

Congrats on the new coach, nice unit.
Although this is not the answer to your question, if you sell your home early why not just move into the coach ? Our home is on the market and Cindy and I are fulltiming it in our old coach .
We cleaned out our home completely, kids and goodwill got everything we didnt want to take with us.

Ken & Cindy Thank you for the good wishes. Much appreciated. We cannot full time as yet because Larry is still working until May of 2008, and we live in New England and it is cold and snowy here in the winter. Not many if any campgrounds in our area near enough for him to travel to work each day....not in the winter. They are only open until Oct 15 in our area. Wish it was different, but hopefully May 1 will be here soon enough and then we can live in our MH....and be on our way to Fulltiming. Hopefully the house will be sold then also before we take off, but cannot worry about that. If it doesn't ...it will eventually. Thanks again

Talk to Cheryl or Marlene and tell them Howard sent you. They write policies for all the major RV insurance companies and they will spend a lot of time on the phone with you to determine exactly what needs you have.
They may not give you the best price you can find, but they have saved many of our readers a lot of money. But more than anything they will help educate you.
You will not need full-timers coverage at first and you can add it later. However, you may find the cost to have it for a few extra months is not that bad.
I'll leave the RV clubs question for another time as we don't want to mix topics here. Perhaps you can start another topic on that question.

Hi Arlene, Congratulations on the new rig, it sounds awesome! We are new fulltimers, been in our MH for about 7 months now. Before we were FT, we had a policy with Progressive. We got a couple of quotes from different companies when we started fulltiming. I can tell you from talking to different insurance offices that Miller Agency is tops. I worked with Marlene, and Howard is absolutely right about the time they take with their customers. I felt like I was the most important person in Marlene's day every time we talked. We are very happy with the service and the policies. Good luck to you, hope to meet you on the road some day.

We just got in, and saw your reply, and we thank you. Larry will be calling Miller tomorrow, and we gladly will tell them you sent us. Larry said he will also ask them if there's any advantages to getting the full timers insurance right form the start. Also putting the toad on now also...and canceling the insurance we now have on it. Looking forward to talking with Cheryl or Marlene, and educating ourselves on RV insurance. Larry actually printed your article on insurance to put in his file, and made notes pertaining to questions he wants to clear up when he speaks to the Miller agency. Love this forum, you, Linda & all of the nice people who have helped and inspired us to take this plunge, and live our dream....first living vicariously through all of you, and then by answering all our ....sometimes redundant questions. We first started out asking about coaches, toads, and on and on. Now here we are with our new coach and talking insurance. Before you know it...we'll be one of you guys....hee ....another Fulltimer! Thank you again for all your help.

My first bit of advice on RV Insurance is to call Miller RV Insurance Agency. 1-800-622-6347
