I've been looking at MH's for full-timing.  I've concentrated my search so far on Newmar's but ran accross a nice looking 2000 Safari Zanzibar today.  Seems to be nicely equipped and is real clean.  How are they for full-timing (mechanically is my main concern and of course I want it to hold up to rigors of full-time living)!  Any opinions/testimonials would be GREATLY appreciated.

Since no one has said anything I will post some of my thoughts.
When we were going to RV shows we looked hard at the Zanzibar in 2000 and 2001. The 2000 model was very tempting but the quality had gone down for 2001. Soon afterwards Safari was sold to Monaco. 2000 seems to be the last year of decent Safari motorhomes before Monaco revamped the company. Of course the newer Safari's have more in common with Monaco than the old ones. There are a lot of older Safari motorhomes being used for full timing. In fact some full timing friends with a 1997 Serengeti are camped 100 feet from us and have had the motorhome since they bought it new. They are still happy with it and it still runs and works well.
The bottom line is to inspect it well, but if maintained well it should be a good full timers motorhome.

Thanks Bill....I thought I was invisible there for awhile!  I think I may pass on the Safari anyway.  Guess I'll stick with a used Newmar Dutchstar (like yours I guess).  By the way....I just started reading your blog and enjoy it....there's alot of information there and a ton of "catching-up" to do - better get reading!

We had a '99 Zanzibar, turned out to be an entry level coach. We tripped in it for 3 years and full timed in it for 10 months. Monaco adopted them for service and I had little trouble with the coach that could not be phone diagnosed and self repaired.

We stayed in the Monaco family when we traded for more storage and horse power to a Beaver. The 2001 with 2 slides is a bad year (rumour) but the '99 and 2000 were pretty good.

As usual I am late with this. We have a 2001 Safari Serengetti for full timing, and we just love it. We bought it used and it has more than we expected. Powered by a 350 Hp Cummings with an Allison 6-speed tranny. Automatic awning, Hydro-Hot system, two slides, kitchen & bath tile floors, large bathroom w/ large tub/shower, and much much more all the comforts of home. It was built by the old Safari Co. before the Monaco Corp. took over. I know this won't help the orginator of this thread but maybe someone else.
