Hope this story of what "NOT TO DO", helps some of you avoid what happened to us on the way home from south Texas a week ago. We stopped at the KOA in Abilene for the night. After checking in we were following the guide that most KOA's have leading us to our camp site. That lulled us into a false sense of security, thinking that they wouldn't lead us under trees that a high profile fifth wheel shouldn't go under. BIG MISTAKE! Assigned site was to small even for a 29' fiver, while trying to carefully maneuver into it watching the sides and a out of place picnic table and with the guide watching us , I might add, I failed to look up. Also Dottie usually gets out and watches when we are parking to make sure I don't hit anything. She didn't this time, and YOU GUESSED IT, I hit the top front corner of the trailer on a tree and caused substantial damage. I take responsibility because I was driving and supposed to know where my trailer will go and NOT go, but after beating myself up pretty good all night, (no sleep that night) and hearing the crunch over and over I settled on, also at fault was the in competency of the person assigning the site and the guide that put me in that position. There were plenty of spots so it wasn't a matter of this was the only spot they had to offer. Lesson, stay with your routine's and don't trust campgrounds to always have their sites tree safe and to know what they are doing. We won't be staying at the Abilene KOA again, hopefully "lesson learned" for us and maybe some of you also.

I think I would ask them for the name on their insurance carrier. I don't know that you were wrong to assume that they knew where they were taking you, and that you should be able to fit.
It's definitely worth a try.
Good luck,
Fred

I agree with Fred, they know the layout of their campground. Since they were leading you to the site thay saw what you were driving and towing. You might want to call them and ask about their coverage. Won't cost anything but a phone call. Good luck with getting your F/W repaired. SS
