I have read Howard's complete journal and I remember that he mentioned a weather radio but my ram memory doesn't recall what the brand was and I don't have enough life left to go back and try to find the entry. Does anybody recall what it was? Howard are you listening? I went to Radio Shack the other day and asked their very knowledgeable sales help about it and they took me to an AM/FM/Weather radio and that's all they knew about. If I owned a retail store I would see to it that the sales people knew all about what they were selling. Another rant for another day.

I don't know which one Howard talked about but we have this one http://www.goinginstyle.com/gis/body_individual.asp?pf_id=2726&dept_id=71 It is handy because it is wind up eleminating batteries as we all know they are either dead or not available whenever you need them. :)

I think we have the same as Howard, its a Radio Shack Weather Radio. Its AC and has batterys. I believe it cost about $59.00 dollars or so. Its a good investment will give you the weather forcast for up to 5 counties or so. GBY...
Thanks to all who answered. Howard, I went to ebay and there just happened to be 2 available for sale at 24.95 plus shipping so I bought one. I hope it doesn't turn out to be a mistake. At least I used a credit card to pay for it. There is still one more available if anyone is interested. I just did a search for weather radio and a bunch of stuff came up. Thanks again.

My wife bought me the same radio Howard has from Radio Shack for Christmas. We are not full timeers yet but it has been usefull to get a weather report anytime you want. I'm still not sure how you set the alerts as I don't want to woken up in the middle of the night about a wind storm since we live in a stick built. We will use it more as we start traveling more in our 5th wheel. I would recommend it.

Hi:
Now I know all of you guys have a computer and internet access, so if you are interested in watching the weather there are several online sites that you can access that will give you current weather for your location with radar and satellite views as well. NOAH has a nice site at www.srh.noah.gov. The weather channel from the satellite TV will do the same at www.weather.com. There is a nice weather page at "weather bug" that can be down loaded free or with a paid subscription if you don't like advertisements, and the weather underground (www.wunderground.com) also has a nice page that is free.
I don't think any of these have the alarm freature of the Radio Shack weather radio but they are really nice if you like to follow the weather. One should never be without weather information unless you just desire to be.
The C Crane company also markets various weather radios. I don't know the online address right off hand but a google search should bring it up.
