We buy used books cheap at Goodwill stores and Flea markets. When snow-birding we swap books at the Clubhouse. :)

I go to the local library of whatever town we are in - so far all of them have had books for sale by Friends of the Library or some similar organization for 50 cents to a whopping $1.00. I have a stack of excellent books now! I've also done a bit of swapping at campground offices or laundry rooms and have gotten a few good ones that way. I love to read, too, and was spending way too much on Kindle books.

In Quartsite, AZ, I understand there's also the naked sock man book store. Google it for an eye almost full! LO

Super late to this topic, but maybe when it comes to books the party never really ends! We downloaded the free Kindle app to our PC and to my Nexus from Amazon (we do have Amazon Prime, not sure if that's a requirement). We get a free book from Amazon each month, plus daily recommendations of free and inexpensive titles from www.bookbub.com. For those of us who love the feel, smell, and experience of a physical book, check out www.booksalefinder.com, where you can search for book sales by city -- perhaps one near your current locale!

As many have suggested....CG often have boo exchanges. Some libraries also may have a used book store attached with them which are free...no need for a library card.
For those that use any kind of e-reader 2 suggestions. bookbub.com and ohfb.com You can find free books on there as well. Classicbookshelf.com also has many free classic books.
