Ouch, believe I read on another forum that you can't be searched without you giving permission?
That sounds really scary!

I think when it comes to the law the correct answer to any situation is, "it depends". However, I believe the officer overstepped. If you allow him in the vehicle, he can look at things in the open but is not allowed to open anything. If you gave him permission, that was your choice. If it were me, hell would freeze over before he would search my house without a warrant.

I believe the same as mark and have had it happen.......No you may not search my coach!!....there is nothing in there........I know I might be here a while longer officer for telling you no and several more of you comrads will be here shortly but No...
This unit is fully self contained so if you need to search it and I'm not under arrest I'll be inside calling my attorney and the state AG.....maybe a little news media.
Been there ,done that ,had it happen........Had positive out comes!!
as soon as you open your mouth to defend yourself.......your done , be polite ,assert your right , have a good nite

I knew at the time that I didn't have to let him search it, but he was being so aggressive I was worried about what would happen if I said no. I didn't want to give him any reason to arrest me. I've never been arrested and want to keep it that way. I knew he wouldn't find anything, but it was very invasive.
So anyway, a little update. Willow weathered the winter well, even though I totally was a bad RV owner and didn't winterize her at all. I have her plugged in and have been flushing my water tank today and doing some spring freshening up. I want to get busy this summer with some renovations, but I just started an apprenticeship, and am putting in about 60 hours a week at the shop, so I'm not sure where I'll find the time.
I have a very long to do list, I really should start a blog.
I started a countdown with an app on my phone today though...
1 year
3 months
1 week
3 days
6 hours
...until we're living in her full time!
I know the time is going to fly by because we have so much left to do. My daughter got engaged in February and her wedding is June 27th, 2015, my youngest child graduates the same month. Then we'll have the summer to get stuff sold, put what we're keeping in storage, (which I hope won't be much) and get my daughter off to college. Then as of September 1st, 2015 our only home will be our RV. I'm not sure if we'll stay in MN for another month or so, or head down to Texas. It'll depend on if I'm done with my apprenticeship, (which I should be) and where we're at financially.
I sure would love to attend a rally between now & then!
I'll post an update once I've started a blog.

Well we are down to less than 3 months and we will be living in Willow full time. I can't believe I posted my introduction here back in 2009, and now it's about to happen! I'm excited and scared to death all at the same time.
I still don't feel like I know my RV well. I'm currently in the middle of a renovation. I haven't been able to find a reliable RV mechanic here either. We spent almost $2000 last year and ended up with more troubles than when we started. They just made things worse. We got totally ripped off.
These are all things I have to figure out in the next few months. August 1st we're heading to Texas.

SplusH, how awesome that you are so close to living your dream. I actually started reading from the beginning, what a nice history you have to remember your journey.
I just wanted to say you aren't crazy. There are plenty of people here that are doing or working towards the same dream.
I always tell people if I had known when I was younger about this lifestyle, I would have gotten a camper/RV a long time ago and would be travelin' in my tye-dye clothing.
I hope you find a good mechanic, good luck, and safe traveling!
