Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.

We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!

Recommendations for Rockport/Corpus Christi areas

Hi everyone! We are heading for Texas late this fall; spending the month of December at the Alsatian at Castroville. We are looking for ideas for the month of November along the coast - possibly Rockport/CC area or nearby. Anyone stay somewhere they recommend - or definitely do NOT recommend? Thanks!

A few years ago we stayed a month at the Big D rv park now called the Copano Bay rv resort. It was good place then. Maybe somemone has new info on it.

The web site is copanobayrvresort.com

Thanks Clay; I tried the website but my location (Canada) is denied - it won't let me load the website! Never seen that happen before.

It looks like the web site is down or gone. One review said the park was being sold. Oh well.

Anyone else have experience in the area? And if not, is there a reason why you haven't camped along the Texas coast?

We are also wondering, since it will be early November when we arrive, if we need to book ahead. There are so many campgrounds and sites, and we will be there quite early in the season. Do we dare take the chance and just find a place upon arrival?

I'm from Texas and would never spend any great amount of time on the beaches. The salt air will literally eat up  any exposed metals and will find any nicks or scratches in painted metals.

We stay in the Rio Grande Valley which is more inland. There is plenty to do there and lots of RV parks to choose from. Try RV Park Reviews for selecting one.

I just talked to my friend who lives in Rockport.  He said it starts getting real busy towards the first of November.  He recommends you make reservations.

I spent the first 12 years of my life in Castroville. Great little town to grow up in.

One place my wife and I like to stay during the winter months is Port Aransas, Texas.  During the summer it can be a real circus; too many people, parties and rental golf carts. But during the winter months it turns into a somewhat quiet fishing village.  The RV parks do fill up with winter visitors but they are a quieter bunch.

Two places we have stayed and liked are: Surf Side RV Park  http://www.surfsiderv.com/  and Port Aransas RV resort https://portarvresort.com/

You really can’t go wrong with Rockport either.  There is also a smaller relatively unknow town up the cost call Palacios you might want to check out.

Hope you have a nice trip to Texas

Steve

Thank you for the recommendations, Steve. We had a look, and unfortunately they are both a bit more than we are planning to spend on rent. The hunt continues! We do like the looks of a place called Majestic Oak Resort in Rockport. Ever heard of it?

It's interesting you mention Castroville, as we chose the Alsatian RV Resort as our one splurge for the winter. We will be there the month of December. We've heard good things about it through this forum!

Nicole,  I really hadn't thought about it from the perspective of staying for more than a few days.  Since we live in Texas we don't stay more than a few nights so the cost is not huge concern.  As soon as we retire and go full time I'm sure we will be taking a much closer look at rental costs.

I have an ex-stepdaughter-in law (long story :)) who lived with my two grand daughters at an RV park in Rockport.  I'm  going to see them this Saturday so I'll asked where they stayed and how they liked it.

Steve

Nicole and Robin, My ex-stepdaughter-in law (ESDIL) stayed at Bay View RV in Rockport.  They said they really liked it and the prices were relatively reasonable.  I think the primary reason they preferred Bay View over Majestic Oaks is its proximity to town.  Of course, that may be the exact reason someone might prefer Majestic Oaks.  To each their own.

For what it’s worth, it looks like Majestic gets better reviews than Bay View.  I wish I could give you better firsthand information but the only place I have stayed in Rockport is Goose Island State Park.  Nice place but you can’t stay long term.

Good luck with your RV park search.

Steve

Thanks for the information from your ESDIL (now, that's an interesting story, I'm sure!). We did decide to choose Majestic Oak, only to find out it underwent/is undergoing massive renos - and a pretty big price jump to boot. So . . . We found a place called Ancient Oaks instead. It looks like an older place, but we're happy to have something pinned down. it will be fun to drive around the area and check out places for ourselves.

Your time and interest in helping us out is very appreciated!

Nicole and Robin, I was just wondering if you were still planning the trip to the Texas coast. As you probably have heard, Rockport and Port Aransas took a really nasty hit from Harvey. If you haven’t done so, do a YouTube search for “rockport storm damage” There are several very sad videos of the destruction in Rockport.

We will be at the Alsatian RV Resort from 01 November thru the end of February.  Looks like we'll see you there.

We sure have been following the news - incredibly, unbelieveably sad. So hard to see the devastation everywhere. Since we are in Castroville for December, we are going to try to find a new place to go for November. Perhaps Lake Buchanan or somewhere nearby on the Colorado River.

I'm excited to hear there will be fellow 'dreamers' in Castroville. Looking forward to meeting you, Ron and Janice! We are scheduled to arrive Dec. 10.
