Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.

We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!

Stream smart system

This is my first post so I hope I am doing this right and put this in the right spot.  I  wanted to see if anyone has heard of this unit or has it.  We saw it at an RV show this weekend and it almost sounds to good to be true.  You buy this box and it runs through your wifi.  You can get pretty much any show, sports game, etc.  We even thought about buying it for our house for now.  I did some research on line but didn't see a lot on this subject.  If anyone can help I would appreciate it.  Thank so much.

In looking at the reviews on Amazon it's mixed as to how well these work. Some liked it some didn't. There were several that indicated they couldn't get it to work. And several mentioned that it isn't as easy as using a cable or satellite box.

I also saw some indication where this technology might be illegal something to do with the copyright laws although streamsmart company says it's legal. So it could turn out to be like Napster in the near future.

We have a Sony TV box which needs to connect to the internet to work. We discovered that some WiFi services at RV parks do not support the use of our Sony TV box. We were unable to get it to work at several resorts so we don't carry it in our RV. It works great in our home. It is tougher to use then our Dish Satellite box. A couple of steps are required to move from one streaming service to another.

Five more years and I believe we will have all this internet/tv/steaming thing worked out.

The issue is not so much the streaming technology but the fact that it uses data on your mobile plan - and LOTS of it! We've been in some parks where the wi-fi supports streaming and handles it OK, some parks where the network supports streaming but doesn't have the bandwidth to handle it, and other parks where the park wi-fi is set up to block streaming. At up to 3GB per hour to stream an HD movie, our 24GB/month mobile plan is too precious to spend on streaming movies or TV. We use our Amazon Fire Stick to stream when we're in a park that supports it and has the bandwidth. Otherwise, we depend on satellite or broadcast TV (both HD with more programming than we should be watching).
