Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.

We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!

Best large flat towable

We have a 40 ft. Bluebird and we are looking for the best toad for our situation. We have two large dogs so we need something that will accommodate them. We want something that can be flat towed. I currently have a 2015 Jeep Unlimited Rubicon that I just don't like. Anybody out there have a suggestion?

This link will take you to the towing guides for model years 2016 all the way back to the year 2000 - Motorhome.com Downloadable Dinghy Towing Guides.  The guides show what models can be towed four wheels down and what is required to do so.  Just keep in mind that a model that can be flat towed one year may not be flat towed in another year depending on model year changes.

Certain models of Escalades, Tahoes, Suburbans, Expeditions, Denalis and other large vehicles can be flat towed .... assuming your motorhome is rated for towing such weight.

Knowing why you don't like the Wrangler Unlimited might help us make some suggestions. If your Wrangler is set up as a TOAD, it should sell fast by advertising on several RV forums. I doubt a dealer will give you anything for that gear as they typically remove it and sell the vehicle as stock.

It is not set up as a toad. We bought the Jeep in anticipation of buying the motor home but now that we have the coach and I have been driving the Jeep for a while I have decided that I would rather look for something else. I don't like the rough ride, don't like the way the doors will close on you because they only have straps rather than hinges. Don't like to drive it with the top off, difficult to get in and out of.

I understand very well. We tow a Wrangler and it has it's fun aspects, but it is not very comfortable. Full timing we find we spend a lot of time driving the TOAD exploring and wish for something more comfortable. We are looking at a 2014-2015 Grand Cherokee (QDII 4WD) or a 2013 or newer Ford F-150 4X4 Supercrew. These specific years are important.
The Grand Cherokee went to electric steering in 2016 like the small Cherokee. The small Cherokee is having issues being flat towed, so I suspect the same with the new Grand. The Grand is comfortable and can still explore some backwoods trails.
The Ford F-150 is very comfortable and the Superecrew cab can haul big dogs while leaving you extra storage in the bed. Earlier than 2013 are not flat towable (maybe 2012 or much older with manual transfer case). The 2016 and newer has an aluminum body making it 700lbs lighter. My Wrangler 2 door weighs 4,800lbs and the new F150 weighs about 4,500 lbs. Looks can be deceiving.
Some things to consider.
