Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.

We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!

RV-Dreams Club?

Hi Everyone!

Linda & I have been discussing the development of an RV-Dreams Club for over two years now.  Well, we have finally decided to do it.  smile

Please read my recent Journal entry called The Next Step For RV-Dreams.

There you will find details on why we are going to do this, what we hope it will look like, the cost, the benefits, etc.  Also, there is a link in the entry to a Club Survey Form where we are gathering information, comments, and suggestions.  We hope you partipate.

This is a big step for us and we hope that it's the "right" one for us and for all RV-Dreamers alike.  It's exciting and scary at the same time.

As always, thank you so much for your support!  biggrin

Well, it sounds good and it seems as though you do definitely have a very loyal following here. I, for one, think it would be great. It doesn't reek of...well, commercial interests and sounds more like it will only enhance what you have here, making it even better. Go for it!

I've never had an issue with folks makin a buck, as long as 1) there's a true value for the money & 2) that it's not shoved down my throat, or gods help you, a million advertisements being crammed down my throat as I try to use the service. Seeing as how as just can't see you & Linda violating either of those ;) I'm all for it. Lassiez les bon temps rouler!

On a totally serious note, I think it's a great idea. The value will always be there for free, but the low cost, paid membership will provide much additional value and also provide y'all the freedom (potentially) to travel more and provide yet more value, both paid and free. I think I can speak for everyone who frequents is place in saying that we'd all like that :D

On that note, if you have any odd ball tech questions, especially in regards to the systems integrations, drop me a line. That's what I've been specializing in for the last ump-teen years and for y'all I can make the time :)

Bon chance

I have never been a huge fan of "clubs" because I usually can not see the value.  However, I am sure all I have learned from you and Linda and other RV Dreamers has already paid for about 10 years of membership fees.

We will be happy to join and support your efforts.

P.S. I could not get the survey page to submit:  In additon to campground reviews, I would be interested in: suggested travel routes, service facility reviews, "how to videos"  and I always enjoy reading about and looking at new rigs.

Thanks for those initial reactions.  smile

GiniaJ, Remi, & jb, we are turned off by sites that seem too commercial as well, so we will do our best to avoid that.  And we certainly won't be cramming anything down anyone's throat as we find that distasteful as well.

The paid membership of $36 will certainly provide value, more value than that, even if I didn't articulate the benefits very well.  The entry was already getting too long, so I left out some details.

Much of the value will be in the additional information, personal service, and community interactivity we will be able to provide just by having the time, the focus, the better frame of mind through travel, and a bit more financial incentive to make it happen.  smile

We do understand that most folks (like myself), actually have to see it first.  smile

We debated putting it out there before it was ready to launch for that reason.  But we ultimately decided we wanted to get feedback and see what the potential members would like to see included as we are building.  It was a tough choice, but we thought that was better than finding 1) we included things we didn't need to include and 2) we left out things that would have been easy to implement.  smile

Finally, I absolutely agree that it will make the "free" parts of our sites even better!

There is a link to the survey page in the Journal entry that seems to be working on my end.  However, I'll put a link here as well:  RV-Dreams Club Survey (link deactivated, see my post below for more info).

Of course, the survey itself won't mean much without glancing at the Journal entry.  smile

Thanks again for the comments!

Look for the lettering that turns red when you click submit. You need to enter some kind of answer even though it seems you would leave it blank.Hope this helps.

Hi Howard,

When I did the survey it would not submit until I selected a response in the box for "if you said no, why" pull down box -- even though I had said "yes." You might want to check that out. I think it finally went through.

General response - I like it. This is by far the most valuable resourse I have found to date and I'm happy to support your efforts!

CKerr explained better than I did. Took me a couple times to figure it out.

Thanks for letting me know about the problem with the form.  I had marked the field in question "not required", but there was apparently a glitch.  I tweaked the form, so I hope it is working now.  smile

Hi Howard and Linda,

Bill and I would join the club if it got you back into travel mode.  We love all the wonderful info and pictures of the places you visit, the campgrounds you review, as well as the hiking and kayaking venues. We have file that information away for our future travels. You both make great travel guides and we are more than willing to pay for that service alone.  Add to that all the financial, work camping and technical info, $36 per year is a bargin.

We wish you every success and look forward to seeing how this evolves for you two.

See you in April...........

I can only speak for myself, but I've already gotten waaaay more than 36 bucks worth from the information which you and Linda share, plus being able to utilize all of the knowledge available on the Forum..... and I'm not even on the road yet!   The Club sounds like a good idea and I hope it is a very successful endeavor.   Count me in!   smile.gif

I couldn't agree more with Kerri.  The information has been tremendous for everyone.  Howard and Linda have taken the mystery out of fulltiming for those of us that are considering the lifestyle, as well as those already committed.

I'm excited at the prospects of RV-Dreams going to the next level.  Everyone will benefit!

Thanks!

Well, I can't tell you all how much I appreciate you kind words and support.  smile

However, upon further review and a lot of thought, we probably are not going to continue in the direction of a club.  Leave it to us to make a decision and then change our minds.  smile

You can read my entry called Soul-Searching to read more about what may be more a change of heart than a change of mind.

Again, thank you so much!

THREE years later and I am discovering there was a consideration for a club!  Where have I been??

Well, I have been a staunch promoter of this website for 8+ years - but I have not been a journal subscriber until recently (July 2013). Any time I ran into or talked with an RV dreamer, I told them about this site (and have been hugged and thanked because of the value it delivers) as well as Escapees RV Club.

So, I was a bit surprised to discover today that Howard & Linda had considered starting a paid club format ... but that they subsequently had nixed that idea.  Either way I want to state here and now and I would GLADLY pay a membership fee to belong to an RV-Dreams RV Club ... without hesitation ... because there have been many many times I have gleaned another nugget or tip or suggestion from just the forum posts.

Just throwing in another vote of support, whatever you decide. Happy travels all :)

I agree with Terry & Candace!

BTW, I would also vote (and pay) for either bumper stickers or magnetic signs that folks can put on their RVs to identify themselves as "Dreamers"!
